What to expect?

We are offering two internship positions for motivated HTL students to work on the design and implementation of a GDPR Engine for distributed microservice architectures. The project focuses on building an independent, innovative software component that orchestrates data protection–related actions across multiple services.

The internship is closely aligned with a HTL diploma thesis project and provides hands-on experience in modern cloud-native development, APIs, and compliance-driven system design.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement a central GDPR Engine to orchestrate data protection processes across distributed microservices

• Develop RESTful APIs to trigger and manage GDPR-relevant actions (e.g., data deletion, anonymization, data access requests)

• Implement a configuration module to define and manage GDPR-relevant data across services

• Build integrations to simulate or connect multiple services and collect their responses

• Design and implement a basic web-based user interface (e.g., Angular) to visualize processing results and system status

• Implement audit logging and history tracking for all executed GDPR actions

• Collaborate on software architecture decisions and ensure clean, modular design

• Document the solution and contribute to the diploma thesis deliverables

What do we expect?

• Currently enrolled in a technical secondary school (e.g., HTL) or similar education program

• Knowledge of software development (Java, JavaScript, or similar)

• Understanding of web technologies and APIs (REST)

• Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts

• Interest in cloud-native architectures and microservices

• Structured and analytical way of working

• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Angular or other frontend frameworks

• Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS)

• Knowledge of Git and collaborative development workflows

• Awareness of data protection or GDPR concepts

Additional Information

• The project is designed as an independent software component, ensuring no exposure of confidential company intellectual property

• Only abstracted architecture concepts and non-sensitive examples may be used in the diploma thesis documentation

• The internship is intended to support a team-based diploma thesis project

This position has a minimum salary of €1552 gross per month as stipulated in the collective agreement. However, we offer a competitive salary above this minimum, depending on qualifications and experience.
